The current national flag was
confirmed by Law 48 of 1925, and ratified by law 28 of 28 March
1941. The blue and red is for the Conservative Party and Liberal
Party; the white is for peace; the blue star is the purity and
honesty of the life of the country; the red star is for authority
and law in the country. Jaume Ollé, 4 September
1996.
The flag of the Republic of Panama is a red,
white and blue quartered flag (rectangle divided into four quarters). There are two
white rectangles, one blue rectangle (in the lower hoist position) ,
and one red rectangle (diagonal from the blue rectangle), with a red
and a blue star in the white quarters (blue in the top, hoist
position). This flag's height is two-thirds the length.
The white in the flag represents peace, the
blue star stands for purity and honesty (and the Conservative
party), and the red star symbolizes authority and law (and the
Liberal party). This flag was adopted on December 20, 1903, and was
designed by Panama's revolutionary leader and first President,
Manuel Amador Guerrero. The Panamanian flag was design by Mr. Amador Guerrero and
made by [his wife] Ms. Maria Ossa de Amador. The Panamanian
flag is a rectangle divided into four quarters: the top hoist one,
white with a five-pointed blue star; the top fly one, red; the
bottom hoist one, blue; and the bottom fly one, white with a
five-pointed red star. The combination of its three colors has
this meaning: white stands for the long-expected peace through the
peaceful union of the historical parties, the Liberal one
represented by red and the Conservative one by blue.

flag was proposed by Felipe Bunau Varilla before Independence (Jaume

by the Panama government because it was too much like the U.S.
flag and never became official (Alvaro Aguilar , 21
December 1999).

3 November -
20 December 1903 (by
Zeljko Heimer, 6 January 1996).This flag was drawn by
Manuel Amador, son of the first President of the Republic, and
made for his mother Maria Ossa de Amador. Basically it is the
same as the current national flag but the colours are in a
different order. The flag was used from 3 November 1903 to 20
December 1903. After this date the order was changed for unknown
reasons, and the new flag (the current flag) was adopted
oficially by law 64 of 4 June 1904. In 1906 a competition for a
new national flag was initiated, but the flag not was changed.

| Panama had three official flags
during the year 1903. The first is the flag of the Province of
Panama within the Colombian Republic - the last pre-independence
flag. The second flag (above) is similar to the present flag, but
not the same. This almost similar flag places the all-blue quarter
in the top hoist, and the blue star in the lower hoist (and also
flips the red elements in an analogous fashion). According to our
research, this flag was the flag of Panama for a very short period
of time: 3 November 1903 to 20 December 1903. After 20
December, Panama had its third flag of the year - the
present day flag. This
flag was first used at the end of 1903, but not officially adopted
until 1904. (Steve Kramer, 27 April
2003). |

Designed in 1904 by
Nicanor Villalaz and finalized by Sebastian Villalaz. Theme:
"PRO MUNDI BENEFICIO". The gold stars represent the different
provinces; the eagle is our symbol of sovereign, the the sword and
the fusil represents the good bye to the civil wars; the shovel and
the peak symbolizes the labor; the horizon represent the solemn hour
of our independence (6 pm); the cornucopia is sign of wealthy; the
winged wheel represents the progress; the green color represents our
vegetation; and as accessories, at both sides, two Panamanian flags
.

Created in 1904, lyric
by Jeronimo Ossa and music by Santos Jorge. Consists of 4
verses and one chorus. The music was composed since 1897 for
school events under the title "Isthmian Hymn" (Himno Istmeño).
With this musical interpretation, many diplomatic personnel were
received and accredited in our country. Due to the
acceptance of the people, Don Santos proposed to Jerónimo
Ossa, the creation of the lyrics. In 1906, and by the acquired
popularity, the National Assembly adopted and in 1925 it acquired
the official status as National Anthem of Panama.
