Prof. Elisa R. de Céspedes, the Director, Choreographer and Dancer, has in her artistic
history of having achieved that hundreds of her students could dance
rhythmically and professionally within the wonderful world of the
dance. She was born in Panama City, Panama She studied elementary
school in Costa Rica, her high school and College in Colombia; and
specialized in Choreographic Design in Los Angeles, California.
With the sole purpose of
contributing to the enhancement and spreading of the Panamanian
Culture and Traditions, she created on October 17, 1969, the first
BALLET FOLKLORICO PANAMEÑO; fulfilling her deepest wish and making a
dream come true. Since then, she has received multiple awards in
Panama and outside of her country. Professionally, she held
positions such as Advisor in Folklore for the Panama City Hall,
Professor of Folklore in Instituto Justo Arosemena and Director of
Artistic Expressions at the National University of Panama.
Prof. Elisa de Céspedes
has been granted with high honors in Panama, for her work
representing her country at a national and international level. Her
highest award received from the Panamanian Government for her 27th
year in the folk field, is the Order of Vasco Nuñez de Balboa in the
grade of Grand Cavalier, the highest honor given by the Government
to Presidents and important people in and out of the
country.
 Her staff is compounded
of young professionals and outstanding students in high schools,
universities in Panama, U.S.A. and Europe. Her repertoire is a long
list of stylized dances that proudly gives an image of the
Panamanian Culture. During her artistic career, her dance company
has received great awards in Panama, Central and South America,
some states of U.S.A., Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican

Ballet Folklórico
Panameño was the first company to present choreographic shows
keeping the most profound roots and tradition of our folklore. In
1969, the Ballet traveled to different cities of South America to
present our show. Also has performed in many cities of Central
America and North America. In Europe, the Ballet have performed at
the Expo Fair 2000 in Hanover, Germany; 1992 Expo Sevilla in Spain;
Italy.
The Ballet had performed
several times in Disney World, Orlando, and they were to participate
at the Tenth Anniversary of Disney World, in Epcot Center. In South
America, at the Festival of Viña del Mar in Chile. The Ballet has
been broadcasted on television networks such as: Venevision,
Univision, Telemundo, and also European TV shows. At a national
level, they promote tourism with The Panama Tourism Bureau
(IPAT-Instituto Panameño de Turísmo). The Ballet have performed for
High-level dignitaries, conventions and different activities. In
1999, they received the award as the Best Folk Group of Panama on
the National Broadcast Program "Aires de Mi Tierra". In December 31,
1999, they performed during the Ceremony of the Transfer of the
Panama Canal. Also performed in the special affair given by the
Panamanian government to Presidents during the Tenth Iberoamerican
Summit.
